We hope that you have been finding some silver linings through these challenging times. Things changed so quickly in the world and we have been changing as well.

We are writing to you to update you on these changes and to let you know we are really excited for this new chapter. How we offer our services has changed but our passion for caring for you has stayed the same. Aumakua will not be returning to our brick and mortar location. Moving forward all of our services will be offered virtually. This change was inspired by our desire to continue to serve you during the COVID crisis and beyond. At some point things will return to a new normal- which for many of us is a full schedule. By offering our services virtually this will take one errand off your list and we can consult with you at your office, in the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you can find a quiet, private spot. No need to worry about testing and supplements as we will make sure they arrive at your doorstep with ease. For any patients who were receiving IV therapy or B12 injections we will be referring you to trusted colleagues for those services and will still be able to oversee your care.

We do things differently at Aumakua… we are not your average Naturopathic clinic. We take charge of our patients health, and we lovingly hold them accountable for showing up and putting in the work. Our focus is digestive health. We only treat with the tools that we trust and know have the most leverage. We practice foundational health and we know that your digestive tract impacts and influences everything from your skin to your mood, hormones, and energy levels. Inflammation and even your ability to handle physical or emotional stress have roots that lead to your digestion.

At Aumakua, we specifically treat digestive disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). Stress increases the release of cortisol and other hormones that suppress the immune system, interrupt digestion, and alter the good bacteria living in your digestive tract. These malfunctions then impact your ability to manage stress, it all has a domino effect on your body and digestion is at the core of it all.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is of particular interest to us because most patients are rarely given proper diagnoses or any hope of healing. Up to 84% of patients who are diagnosed with IBS actually have Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and the two conditions share a lot of the same symptoms. We have found that testing for bacterial overgrowth has been paramount in treating both conditions.

We start with our 4-Point Diagnostic Assessment that gives our Naturopathic Doctors a baseline perspective on your cardiovascular system, central nervous system, metabolism, and liver health. As part of treatment, our patients can expect us to use professional laboratory tests, professional grade supplements, and a complimentary 30-minute consultation with a Nutritionist with every initial consultation.

Is Naturopathic Medicine covered by Extended Benefits?

Yes, in Vancouver, Naturopathic Medicine is covered under most extended health care plans, health trusts, health spending accounts, and it can be a tax deduction under a medical expense. As we do not have knowledge of individual plans, please ensure to ask your benefits provider for details about inclusions.

How long does treatment take?

It is important to remember that each individual is unique and everybody is at different stages. However, you can expect about six to twelve months of treatment. Phase one lasts anywhere from three to six months and is focused on the eradication of harmful parasites, bacteria, viruses, yeasts, food sensitivities, and other imbalances. Phase two can range between three and six months and is focused on rebuilding and strengthening the gut, digestion, hormone, and immune systems.
